Did you know WE Local will travel to Baltimore, Tampa, St. Louis, Denver, and Bellevue in 2019? WE Local aims to bring together women in all stages of their collegiate and professional journey to experience the excitement, energy and learning environment of SWE’s professional and personal development events. WE Locals are the places for women in engineering to meet with like-minded individuals and become part of a network that is 40,000+ large. At WE Local, you could find your next life-long friend or mentor.

At WE Locals, women in engineering and technical fields as well as collegiate women studying engineering will have access to educational sessions, workshops and networking opportunities programmed to attract, educate and retain women in STEM. As a graduate student, don’t miss the opportunity to gain benefit in terms of networking, job opportunities, and professional connections during the WE Locals. The career fair at WE Locals will feature engineering and technology organizations from the local area and surrounding region. Practice your research talk and get feedback! Submit Abstract for the WE Local Collegiate Competition

Do you want to refine your ability to explain your research to other engineers? Want a chance to present your research at a SWE conference? Participate in WE Local Collegiate Competition. WE Local is now accepting online abstract submissions for the WE Local Collegiate Competition. Submit your abstract before the deadline of Friday, November 2, 2018. Questions about the WE Local Collegiate Competition can be directed to welocal@swe.org.

The WE Local Collegiate Competition is a great way to share your research with a broad technical audience who can offer support, insight, and constructive feedback. Finalists will be selected from the submitted abstracts for the collegiate competition and are required to compete onsite at a WE Local conference in all categories: poster, lightning talk, and face-to-face judging! Graduate students are highly encouraged to submit abstracts summarizing their graduate research, co-ops/internships or external research experience to the Graduate Collegiate Competition. This allows for students to learn and gain insight on their research, and to receive live responses and encouragement from judges. The judges will consist of professional members from academia, industry, and government within the STEM field.

As a Finalists of the WE Local Collegiate Competition, you will receive a $250 travel stipend and complimentary collegiate premier registration to compete in the technical poster competition at the conference site to which you applied.  You will also be recognized during the WE Achieve awards ceremony where three finalists from each category will be awarded first, second, and third place. WE Local Collegiate Poster Competition

SWE is now accepting online submissions for the WE Local Collegiate Poster Competition. The WE Local poster competition is a great opportunity to share research to a broad technical audience. The top five finalists will compete in the technical poster competition at the conference for which they applied.

All entrants will be required to submit an abstract online for judging and is limited to one submission per person for all WE Local conferences. The deadline to apply is 5 p.m. CT on Friday, November 4, 2016.

SWE is Going Local!

Are you excited about WE local starting in 2017?

Ongoing member engagement and interaction happen at SWE’s Region and Section levels. In order to meet the demand of Region conferences, SWE headquarters launched WE Local, which includes conferences around the globe. WE Local conferences (in the US) officially launch in 2017 with two locations: San Jose, CA (Region A and J) and Pittsburgh, PA (Region G). The remaining region conferences (B, C, D, E, F, H, and I) will still be held in 2017. WE Local global conferences will also take place in 2017 in Pune, India and Amsterdam, Netherlands.  Beginning in 2018, WE Local conferences will expand to five US cities, with locations changing every year.

Do you love the SWE Annual Conference?

Coming soon to an area near you — WE Local! In February 2017, there will be two WE Local Conferences, one in Pittsburgh and one in San Jose. These conferences will be local versions of the Annual Conference with many of the same session tracks and events.
