Welcome the Professional Graduate Team to FY18

What is the Professional Graduate Team?

The Graduate SWE program has been primarily focused on those students who have directly transitioned to their graduate program from their undergraduate coursework. The Graduate SWE Professional Taskforce was established to address a gap and engage more of those professionals returning to school and integrate them into the SWE Graduate mission.

Why is this sector of GradSWE important?

As two professionals that have returned to school, the balancing act is different than continuing your education path after undergraduate coursework, and it creates an additional ball to juggle (especially if continuing to work part-time or full-time).

Many of the resources that GradSWE is developing benefit professionals, too, but may just need to be packaged and delivered differently (i.e. email vs. blog post). Our intent is to bring this additional layer of diversity to our robust graduate mission and impact more of our members.

What are our plans for 2017-2018?

The primary object for this fiscal year is to focus on learning about professional SWE members who return to school and provide resources for them and employers.

This includes expanding the current mindset of GradSWE to include more features that are useful for professionals who are students. An example includes incorporating more podcasts or creating podcasts in conjunction with webinars.

Additionally, we’ll be reaching out to membership with a survey in order to gain more insight and provide resources.
