Graduate Appreciation

As many of you probably already know, this week is Graduate and Professional Student Appreciation. Week and universities across the country are hosting events in support of their students pursuing advanced degrees.

This celebration was founded in 1993 by the National Association for Graduate and Professional Students (NAGPS). For more information see (http://nagps.org/events/graduate-professional-student-appreciation-week-2/)

Since many of us are being recognized at our institutions through this celebration I thought I’d take the time to recognize all of the great work that our SWE graduate students are doing.

At the society level, our conference track has become a great success through the hard work of our Graduate Programming Coordinators and their team. We have also begun to add graduate webinars and look forward to more in the future.

At the regional level, so many of the recent region conferences have had (or are going to have) graduate related sessions.

At the section level, many of the graduate sections are doing great things locally. A few of these sections are listed on this blog, and we are seeing more and more growth of sections improving their graduate offerings. I encourage you all to talk to each other and share experiences and knowledge.

I’m excited to see where SWE’s future graduate work will be, and I want to encourage all of you to take this week as a chance to thank the graduate students around you who have helped to make graduate SWE a great success.

Thank you for all your hard work and I hope to continue to see you all involved in SWE.

Tabitha (Graduate Member Coordinator)
