6 Dos for Better Networking at WE12 (or other scientific conference)

Do bring business cards – Check with your department many universities offer free or reduced cost official business cards to graduate students.

Do update your LinkedIn page (or create one if you do not have one yet) – You want people to see your most up-to-date info when they look you up to connect.

Do attend networking events at WE12 come to the Grad Student Community Meeting and Networking event, Thursday, Nov 8th @ 10AM in 350F- Please introduce yourself to the graduate leadership team.

Do look through the conference info online ahead of time –  Identify presenters you would like to meet and start identifying sessions you want to attend.

Do write down some open ended questions you can ask people – When you are at networking events or lunch, ask the questions and listen to the answers.

Do follow networking etiquette – Make sure to not monopolize the person’s time.  Circulate and include others in your discussion.
