WE11: Applying to Graduate School

Courtney Shell, Katharine Brumbaugh

The session had about 60 attendees, mostly undergraduate juniors and seniors. In the first 25 minutes the moderator and the three panelists presented basic information about graduate school applications. Basic information covered in the presentation included reasons why people choose to attend graduate school, comparisons between masters and PhD degrees, ways to get involved in research now, an application timeline, a description of the application components and process, tips on choosing a school/advisor, and information about campus visits/interviews. For the remainder of the one hour session the panelists answered audience questions, ranging from concerns about switching disciplines to deciding how many schools to apply to.
